Liverpool to Extend Dejan Lovren’s Contract

Liverpool is set to extend Croatia international’s Dejan Lovren’s contract by another year and keep him until summer 2022. The Reds received an offer from Russian club Zenit St Petersburg for the player recently but they want to keep the player until 2022 but that will be in accordance to the player’s wish.

Liverpool will extend the Croatian defender’s stay at the club if he is still at Anfield by the end of the summer transfer window. With top European club like Zenit St Petersburg interested in the 31-year-old player, he now has the option to either renew his contract or leave the club by the end of the season. 31-year-old Dejan Lovren joined Liverpool from Southampton for £20m in July 2014.

Lovren has helped the club to this year’s Premier League title, making 10 appearances in the top flight during the campaign. Dejan Lovren’s overall stats show he has made 131 league appearances for Liverpool, scoring five goals, and also won the 2019 Champions League with the club. Zenit St Petersburg of Russia and other clubs are thought to have believed Lovren’s deal ran out in summer 2021 but the option of a further year on his contract means Liverpool may be able to command a bigger fee for the defender.
