Defending Champions Liverpool through to the UCL Round of 16

The defending champions Liverpool made it through to the next stage of the Champions League after their victory last night. Liverpool joins Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League. The English side has so far scored 87 goals in 24 games.

The first half of the game was filled with lots of shots on target with Liverpool having more of the position. Salzburg was aiming to secure three points from the English side. They aim to qualify to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League. Things were going well throughout the first half of the game. They proceeded to the half time with both teams on level scores.

The second half of the game resume with Liverpool hitting more of the shots although most of them were off. Salzburg kept the pressure on until in the 57th minute of the game when Naby Keita found the back of the net. Naby Keita headed in Sadio Mane’s cross, there was only going to be one winner at that point.

Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah doubled the lead to seal the defending champion’s hope of qualifying. The African footballer of the year nominee narrowly placed the ball from a very tight angle. It was his first-ever right-footed goal since joining Liverpool. His excellent right-footed finish from a relatively tight angle guided his team pass Salzburg.

Salzburg was unbelievably strong, especially in the first half, but we as well were ready for that fight.” Liverpool needed the three points to go top of their group because Napoli was already beating Genk from first half.

The Reds will discover their Champions League last-16 opponents in Monday’s draw in Nyon, Switzerland (11:00 GMT). Real and Atletico Madrid are both possible opponents.

Salzburg Down to Europa League

Salzburg will have to continue their fight in the UEFA Europa League. The Austrians have sure dropped their mark in the Champions League and the bringing of young Erling Braut Haaland is a plus for them. The 19-year-old striker Erling Braut Haaland is the first player to score in his first six Champions League games. He had many chances to score but failed to become the first player to score in his first six Champions League appearances.

Jesse Marsch likened it to a boxing contest. He said: “It was indeed a real contest for the for the two teams but the better team has to win and that was Liverpool. ”We fought really hard, but they fought back. In the end they got two more punches in. That’s how close the margin is between victory and defeat in the Champions League.”
