Shakhtar Donetsk has completed the signing of David Neres from Ajax. The Ukraine top club side signed the player for around €15m, opening the door for a bid for Steven Bergwijn to replace him in Amsterdam.
Past reports have suggested that Ajax has already had one bid rejected by English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs for Bergwijn, not because Spurs don’t want to sell him but because the bid was too low. David Neres move to Shakhtar will pave more ways for the Dutch side to sign the Spurs player.
Jose Mourinho signed Bergwijn from PSV for around £27m two seasons ago. €16m (£13m) won’t get Ajax there, but it does give them a fungible foundation from which to work. Past reporting has also suggested that Spurs should bring in a replacement for Bergwijn first. That replacement may be Wolverhampton’s, Adama Traore.
