A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, further adjourned until June 25 to mention a case against celebrity bartender, Pascal Okechukwu known as Cubana Chief Priest, for alleged abuse of the Naira.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), took Okechukwu on April 17 for allegedly spraying and tampering with the Naira notes during a social event at Eko Hotel in Lagos.

He entered a plea of not guilty and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N10 million.

On the previous court date on May 2, the defence attorney, Mr Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), informed the court that they were considering a settlement, and requested that the case be resolved by section 14(2) of the EFCC Act

Subsequently, the defence attorney then requested to withdraw the initial objection, and with no objection from the prosecution, the court granted the request.

The court had, therefore, adjourned the case until June 5 (today) to receive an update on the settlement.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that journalists had learned that the defence had submitted a letter asking for a delay in the case.

The court date has now been fixed for June 25 for mention. The charge alleges that the accused person tampered with the money in N500 denomination while dancing at a social event at Eko Hotel.

The violation goes against the stipulations in section 21(1) of the Central Bank Acts of 2007.
