COVID-19: Surge in Number of Cases Raises Concern

The surge in the number of positive COVID-19 cases has become an issue of concern to the Presidential Task Force. According to reports, Nigeria has below 5,000 positive cases of coronavirus as of 11 May. One month later, Nigeria has recorded about 14,554 cases. This increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Nigeria has resulted in the PTF summoning the Governors to find out the level of compliance to guidelines issues nationwide.

The chairman of the PTF and Secretary to Federal Government, Boss Mustapha expressed this concern during the daily briefing earlier today. Boss Mustapha confirmed that he will be having another round of video conference meeting the with appointed Governors to further emphasize the need for the states to adhere to the laid down rules and guidelines.

The PTF Chairman also confirmed that they will keep monitoring the activities of their various teams as well as that of the public. He added that any decision taken will be based on data, science and contemporary issues that affect Nigeria.

While commenting on the solution to tackle the high number of COVID-19 positive cases being reported, he mentioned that total lockdown will not be the solution moving forward. Boss emphasised that managing the virus in Nigeria will require a high level of compliance to the stipulated guidelines.
