COVID-19 palliatives have caused fresh trouble for some people in Ibadan the Oyo State capital.
According to report, two workers of the Oyo State government were arrested for selling about 50 bags of sugar meant to be distributed as COVID-19 palliatives to the people of the state.
According to report, one of the suspects is Adebiyi Azeez a driver and Sunday Akinleye, an Assistant protocol Officer in charge of Palliatives at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters at the State Secretariat, Ibadan.
The defendants who seem to be in trouble over the palliatives have be arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Iwo Road, Ibadan.
The two government workers are not the only ones facing the looming trouble, as a trader, Kafayat Babalola, who was said to have bought the bags of sugar from the defendants is also been charged with alleged receiving and buying of stolen goods.
Though Azeez and Akinleye have both pleaded not guilty to the charges, the police prosecutor, Sunday Ogunremi maintained that the used the official car of the state ministry to convey the stolen goods to the buyer on December 30, 2020.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Taiwo Oladiran, has however granted them bail in the sum of N20,000 each with two sureties in like sum, while the case has been adjourned.
