COVID-19: NCDC Warns Against Usage Of Chloroquine

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has warned against the usage of Chloroquine and self medication amidst the outbreak of Coronavirus, COVID-19.

According to the agency, Chloroquine has not being validated as cure for the virus which has infected over forty people in Nigeria.

The warning was contained in a post on the NCDC twitter handle where it warned that self medication could lead to death.

Please remember that the use of chloroquine and its derivatives for the management of coronavirus disease has NOT been validated and approved Self-medication can cause harm and lead to death. Do not misuse drugs.”

Earlier in a post on its twitter handle, the agency had disclosed that there were two new cases of people infected by the virus in Nigeria.

Two new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: 1 in Lagos and 1 in Osun Both cases are returning travellers to Nigeria in the last 7 days As at 07:00 am 25th March, there are 46 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. 2 have been discharged with 1 death.
