Given the rise in the cases of Coronavirus recorded in Nigeria, the federal government has threatened to impose a fresh lockdown in another two weeks.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who is also the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha had on Monday, June 6 lamented that the rise in COVID-19 cases was directly affecting governance.
While speaking at the task force press briefing in Abuja, Mustapha highlighted the possibility of announcing a fresh total lockdown to curtail the further spread of the virus.
However, Mustapha noted that events of coming weeks would determine the next line of action as he emphasised the need to protect the lives of Nigerians.
According to him, protecting the lives of Nigerians is a responsibility the Federal Government would not shy away from hence the need to put in place measures to curtail the further spread of COVID-19 in the country.
You will recall that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC had on Monday, June 6 announced that the country recorded 575 new cases of COVID19.
Out of the newly recorded cases, Lagos had 123, FCT-100, Delta-58, Edo-52. Ogun-42. Katsina-24. Bayelsa-23, Rivers-22, Borno-19, Plateau-18 and Ondo recorded 18.
Others are Oyo-17, Kwara-15, Osun-13, Enugu-9, Nasarawa-7. Abia-6. Cross River-5. Kaduna-3 and Ekiti State with one case.
The total number of confirmed cases stand at 29,286, also, 11,828 have been discharged and 654 deaths have been recorded as of July 6, 2020.
