Covid-19: Fears In EFCC Over Magu’s Refusal To Self-isolate After Dubai Trip

There is an air of panic among the staff of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja following evidence that its acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, may have unduly exposed himself to the coronavirus and is resisting self-isolation. He returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over the weekend.

Magu, HumAngle gathered, attended the wedding of the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu’s son, on Saturday, March 14 in Abuja and mingled with, at least one top ranking public official who has been certified a carrier of the coronavirus.

Specifically, at the wedding, he had contact with Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari. This was prior to his travel to Dubai.

Although the UAE is not among countries that Nigeria shut out travel contacts with on account of the prevalence of the pandemic, the Middle East country is nevertheless reeling under the assault of the COVIC 19 affliction. The country has recorded about 248 cases with two deaths as a result of the coronavirus.

Employees of EFCC told HumAngle that Magu returned to Nigeria over the weekend and was at the office on Monday, March 23. “All EFCC workers were grumbling. Those who were supposed to treat files at his office deliberately avoided the place. Only some sycophants went to welcome and congratulate him,” a knowledgeable source said.

Magu’s actions violate official advisory guidelines from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). The NCDC instructed “all returning travellers to Nigeria” as well as anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive to isolate themselves for a period of 14 days.
