Ebonyi State Governor
Dave Umahi, the Ebonyi State Governor, has tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday June 4 .
He confirmed this in a statement that he signed personally on Saturday.
The governor was reported to have sent in samples after some government officials were diagnosed with coronavirus .
He said some of his aides tested positive for the virus and although they are asymptomatic, have gone into self-isolation in line with the safety guidelines given by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)
The governor directed the deputy state governor, Kelechi Igwe, to take over administrative responsibilities while he stays in quarantine to avoid spreading the virus.
Umahi, pleades with the residents of Ebonyi state to take the NCDC protocols seriously while reassuring that he will still be working virtually and conducting meetings from his home.
Dave Umahi is the third governor to contract the virus this week following Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state. He’s also the sixth governor that has been infected by the covid-19
As of Friday evening, Ebonyi has recorded at least 438 cases of the virus, according to the NCDC reports.
They have successfully treated and discharged 357 coronavirus patients while recording three deaths.
