COVID-19 Death Toll In Iran Surpasses 20,000

Coronavirus, COVID-19 death toll in Iran has surpassed 20,000 on Wednesday, August 19 with 153 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The spokeswoman of the country’s health ministry, Sima Sadat Lari confirmed this while speaking with the state TV.

According to Lari, the death toll has reached 20,125 with 2,444 new infections in the past 24 hours bringing the total number of cases has to 350,279.

Reuters reported that Iran is one of the worst-hit countries from the outbreak in the Middle East.

Earlier, it was reported that the Iranian government was covering up deaths toll as its records showed that almost 42,000 people died with Covid-19 symptoms up as of July 20 while its health ministry reported 14,405 deaths.

According to the medical records obtained by the BBC, the first death in Iran from Covid-19 was recorded on January 22 while the number of people known to be infected is also almost double official figures of 451,024 as opposed to 278,827.
