Court Reverses Muhammadu Sanusi Banishment From Kano

The dethroned Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi has seen his banishment from Kano reversed by Abuja’s Federal High Court.

The Judge, Anwuli Chikere, has tagged the banishment illegal and awarded the former Emir N10Million in compensation.

She stated that the Emirate Council Law, 2019, used to banish Mr Sanusi conflicted with the Nigerian Constitution.

Judge Chikere stated that the Nigerian constitution is Supreme to all other constitutions in the country, making any other contradicting it remains null and void.

The Judge declared that Sanusi has the right to live anywhere he so wishes, even in Kano.

She has ordered the Kano Emirates to tender a public apology to the ex-Emir in two national dailies.

On 9th March 2020, Muhammadu Sanusi II was dethroned as the Emir of Kano on the grounds of Insubordination and was banished from the Emirate.
