Nnamdi Kanu Trial today has been adjourned to October 21, 2021. The reason was that the presiding Judge, Justice Binta Nyako, stated that the case could not go on in the defendant’s absence.
Kanu, the proscribed separatist leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was not physically present for the resumed hearing at the Federal High Court yesterday in Abuja.
Unfortunately, the Prosecution Team gave no reasons for the absence of the leader of the banned group even after a closed-door meeting at the court premises.
However, the Presiding Judge denied Kanu’s Lawyer the opportunity to request the Federal Government’s Captive transfer to the Nigerian Correctional Centre.
Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer expressed worries over his client’s health and safety. He lamented over the authorities denying access to room Kanu is held custody.
Recall that the IPOB leader is standing trial for charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, illegal possession of arms, among other allegations leveled against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Already, Kanu has spent nothing less than four weeks at the Federal Prison due to the detention order of a court in Abuja on June 29, 2021.
Meantime, a former Governor of old Anambra, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, is one of the people who attended the trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Ezeife told the News Agency that he was in court to represent the Ndigbo (the people of Igbo extraction worldwide).
Everyevery.ng learnt that security presence was beefed up in and around the court premises.
