Coronavirus: Wike Launches Free Bus Scheme

As part of measures put in place to cushion the adverse effects of Coronavirus pandemic on the people of Rivers State, the state Governor, Nyesom Wike has launched a COVID-19 Free Bus Scheme.

While inaugurating the Scheme in Port Harcourt, the Commissioner for Transport, Mr Sunny Ejekwu commended Governor Wike for the initiative noting that it was the first of it’s kind in the country.

Ejekwu stated that the buses will ply Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt, Oyigbo and Eleme Local Government Areas as a pilot scheme.

He added that the Governor has done so much to show his love for his people since the Coronavirus outbreak.

According to the commissioner, the 28 luxury buses will operate strictly in line with advisories on social distancing, use of hand sanitizers and wearing of face masks.

Wike launches free bus scheme

Some of the drivers employed to drive the new buses under the newly launched free bus scheme in Rivers State.

He said, the buses would pick and drop passengers only at designated bus stops between 6:30 am to 7 pm daily.

A driver employed under the newly launched free bus scheme in Rivers State demonstrated the expected protocols to be followed which include wearing of face mask.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Paulinus Nsirim, described the Free Bus Scheme as a gift from Governor Wike, whom he described as a compassionate leader.
