CORONAVIRUS

The coronavirus cases in Nigeria keep increasing, with Oyo state reporting 2 new cases as of Tuesday evening.

The governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, who also heads the oyo state covid-19 task force made this known in a statement released in a series of tweets on his twitter page.

He said, ” 1. The COVID-19 confirmation test for two suspected cases came back POSITIVE, today. One of the new cases is a 28-year-old woman who returned to the country from the United Arab Emirates on March 22, 2020. The second case is a 42-year-old man who is a contact of an earlier confirmed COVID-19 case. “

” 2. The isolation process has been initiated, contact tracing and collection of samples have commenced. This brings the number of confirmed cases in Oyo State to eleven. Two cases have been discharged. So, there are nine active cases.”

” 3. Please, keep following the directives of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force. Wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, regularly. Also, continue to maintain social distancing. “

This begs the question if the state should be put on lockdown due to the coronavirus, mostly because of it’s proximity to Lagos state which has the most of the cases in the country presently. The people of Oyo state are being urged to practice social distancing, which might be a little too low of an effort if the virus goes into the communities.
