CJN Gets COVID-19 After Days Away From Public
Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, justice Ibrahim Muhammed has ordered all the state and Federal Justices across the country to take legal steps in curbing the spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria.
According to Muhammed, there is urgent need to decongest the prisons ordering that all criminal cases be given a speedy hearing.
In a circular issued by Muhammed, he regretted the number of accused persons condemned to the prison while waiting for trial and asking that the state and Federal Justices visit the prisons in their jurisdictions.
The CJN also directed a conditional or unconditional release of persons who have spent about six years or more in prison without securing a conviction.
The Justices are also to look into the freedom of terminally ill, aged inmates, low-risk offenders, low offenders inmates, persons with minor offences, inmates left with less than three years to the completion of their five or more years of imprisonment.
