Chloroquine clinical trial may commence in Lagos State anytime soon for the treatment of the novel Coronavirus disease that has killed thousands of people in different countries across the globe.
According to the state Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, while briefing newsmen in Lagos, the trial would commence in the state next week but in three arms.
Abayomi said these trial arms would involve capturing treatment, prevention and care for high-risk individuals, like older adults with underlying ailments such as hypertension, obesity and diabetes.
These development is coming after the use of chloroquine for the treatment of Coronavirus got a nod from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC.
NAFDAC had since March 20, given its approval but not without a warning that it did not approve that the drug be used as a sure treatment of the virus.
The number of Coronavirus cases in the country rose to 3912, with 117 deaths, 679 recoveries and 3,116 active cases as of Friday 8, May 2020, while Lagos State remains the country’s epic centre of the virus.
