The wife of the Registrar had earlier claimed that her husband was strangled to death by unknown men at their residence in Minna on Monday.
She stated that the assailants had killed her husband and left without taking anything.
However, the son of the late NECO boss, Prince Godswill Obioma the 2nd, who spoke on behalf of the family, negated the controversial account via a message addressed to the Council’s Director of Human Resource Management Mustapha Abdul.
According to the son of the deceased, Professor Obioma died after a brief illness on Monday.
He further requested that the death be announced to the Board, Management and Staff of the Council, adding that the family will communicate further information to the public in due time.
The late NECO Registrar, who before his demise was a former Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council, died at the age of 67.
