College Admissions Scandal; Felicity Huffman & Lori Loughlin
College admissions are one of the most prestiges things in the world. 50 people have been accused of using their wealth and power to manipulate the system. Allowing their children and some undeserving individuals get college acceptances they didn’t work for.
Some of the people at the top of the list are top celebrities; Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin.
A year ago, the feel-good Hollywood couple Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy made a $15,000 donation to the Key Worldwide Foundation. It was said that the donation was for disadvantaged youth for self enrichment programs.
Well, prosecutors beg to differ on that. On Tuesday, prosecutors said, was little more than a conduit for a massive SAT-fixing and college admissions-rigging scheme. And the youth helped by the payment was far from disadvantaged: She was the couple’s elder daughter.
Felicity Huffman appeared in a federal courtroom in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon to face a charge of paying a bribe to boost her daughter’s SAT score.
The next court date is set for March 29 in Boston for both Huffman and Mossimo, who surrendered their passports to the court. Both were barred from traveling outside the continental United States.
Some of the people indicted may strike plea bargains, where they pay fines and offer to do community service instead of letting the legal process play out. A lot will depend on how much evidence prosecutors have amassed. For Huffman and Loughlin, television actors with long careers in the public eye, being a star could be a disadvantage.
