English Premier League side Watford is currently in advanced talks with former Leicester City head coach Claudio Ranieri about becoming their new manager. The Italian helped Leicester City lift their first English Premier League before he was sacked as the club’s head coach.
The 69-year-old would succeed Xisco Munoz, who won promotion with the Hornets last season but was sacked on Sunday after just ten months in the job. Under Xisco, Watford had picked up seven points from seven Premier League games and was 14th in the table.
Watford’s owners, the Pozzo family, are making their 14th managerial change since they took over in 2012. Claudio Ranieri would return to the English top-flight after leaving Italian Serie A side Sampdoria in the summer. He has a wealth of experience, and Watford could be the 21st club he has taken charge of in his 35-year managerial career.
Claudio Ranieri has so far won eight trophies, including the 1998-99 Italian Cup and 2004-05 Super Cup with Valencia and the Premier League title with Leicester City. He also had spells in charge at Chelsea and Fulham. Xisco was sacked after Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Leeds United. He is now the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season.
