The 37-year-old singer appeared before Southwark Crown Court on Monday, October 26, 2026, where the sentence was handed down. However, he will not go to prison immediately because the sentence has been suspended for 12 months. This means he could face imprisonment if he fails to meet the conditions of the sentence.

The case relates to an incident that happened at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair area on February 19, 2023. According to court proceedings, Brown attacked music producer Abraham Diaw with a glass tequila bottle, striking him on the head. His injuries included damage to his head and knee, which required hospital treatment.

Brown pleaded guilty to affray, a criminal offence involving the use or threat of unlawful violence in a way that makes others fear for their safety. Following his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped several other charges, including assault and attempting to cause serious bodily harm.

His vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who was also involved in the incident, received a four-month suspended prison sentence. Both men were ordered to pay £1,500 in legal costs.

During sentencing, the judge described the attack as dangerous and stressed that fame and commercial success do not place anyone above the law.

The incident attracted widespread attention because of Brown’s international music career and his previous legal troubles.

Although the singer has avoided immediate imprisonment, the court’s decision marks a significant development in a case that has remained in the public eye for more than three years.
