Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Obot, reportedly intimidated the lawyer, Barrister Inibehe Effiong, for protesting against the judge inviting armed policemen to the court during a procession.
Barr. Effiong was quick to post a video of himself, shared on @ogayenne status, the Uyo Influencer. In the video, the Barrister was awaiting a conviction warrant for his arrest while explaining the situation to Nigerians.
The case that led to his arrest and sentence to one-month jail term in Uyo prison, concerns the trial of Leo Ekpenyong in the libel suit filed by Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Despite the defence lawyer pointing out obvious errors from the judge during the court session, even stating that the presence of the armed officers make him feel uncomfortable, the Justice still asked police to detain him.
Barrister Effiong made it clear to the people of Uyo State that the manner of judgement passed in the state doesn’t favour the ordinary man and is not in line with constitutional provisions of the law.
