Chelsea was beaten in their Champions League final game, which was played against Spanish top side Barcelona. It is a terrible weekend for the Blues as the male team lose the Emirate F.A Cup to Leicester City on Saturday. The female squad loses the UEFA Women’s Champions League final to Barcelona 4-0 a day later. Barcelona claimed their first-ever Champions League title as they thrashed Chelsea 4-0.
It is a joy for Nigeria as their players, male and female, and celebrated during the weekend. Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi celebrated lifting the F.A Cup for the first with Leicester City, while Asisat Oshoala celebrated Barcelona’s first-ever Uefa Champions League. Oshoala came in the game in the 71st minute, she did not score or provide any assistance, but she was able to help the team maintain the scores as they kept a clean sheet to lift the trophy.
Asisat Oshoala is now the first and only African woman to win the women’s Champions League. Responding to the win, UEFA celebrated her as they wrote on their women’s Champions League verified social media handle Twitter precisely saying:” @AsisatOshoala is the first African player to win the #UWCL!” The team also won their local league as well.
