Chelsea Extends Lead; Manchester City, Liverpool Drop Points

Chelsea football club of England extends their lead on the Premier League table after defeating Newcastle United. At the same time, Manchester City suffered defeat at home to Crystal Palace, and Liverpool drew Brighton at home.

Three second-half goals from Reece James and Jorginho condemned the ‘Tyneside’ to their sixth defeat this season, extending their winless run to 10 games.

James’s 65th and 77th-minute goal and an 81st-minute penalty by Jorginho ensured that the blue side of London extended their lead over second-place Liverpool to three points after they lost a two-goal lead to draw Brighton and Hoves Albion at Anfield.

Two first-half goals by Henderson and Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead before Mwepu scored in the 41st minute to give Brighton a lifeline going into halftime. A 65th-minute goal by Trossard ensured the ‘Seagulls’ left with a point.

Patrick Viera side inflicted the second loss of the league season on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium as an early first-half goal by Zaha gave Crystal Palace the lead.

Manchester City bossed the game with their possession-based football but could not find a breakthrough. It went worse for Guardiola’s side when Aymeric Laporte received his marching orders on the stroke of halftime after a VAR reviewed a foul.

Crystal Palace sealed the win after Chelsea Loanee Connor Gallagher scored the second goal for the London side in the 88th minute. This result leaves Manchester City third on the EPL table with five points off the first-place team.
