Chelsea Close to Signing Edouard Mendy from Stade Rennes
Chelsea is close to signing Stade Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, their captain Damien Da Silva hinted that their goalkeeper is close to joining the English Premier League side. The 28-year-old goalkeeper is expected to complete his move to Chelsea in the coming days after agreeing on personal terms with the Blues.
He is set to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga as the club’s number one goalkeeper should he complete the move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea has been in the transfer market in search of a goalkeeper, they went for Ajax and Cameroon goalkeeper Onana but the club is not willing to release the keeper, they also inquired about Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Oblaq but the Spanish club is not is also not willing to see the goalie.
According to Stade Rennes skipper Da Silva, he said: “We are a little selfish, we don’t want to lose Edouard Mendy. But it’s part of football and the transfer market. He’s a great goalkeeper who deserves what happens to him.” So far the goalkeeper has kept a record of 36 clean sheets in 85 appearances for Rennes. Should Chelsea sign the player, he will be the sixth player to be signed by the club following the signing of Thiago Silva, Zyachi, Timo Werner, Malang Sarr, Ben Chilwell and Hervarts, he might be in their opening game which is on the 14th of September against Brighton & Hove Albion.
