Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have indicated an interest in signing Super Eagles and Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi on a permanent deal from Liverpool this summer. The player who currently plays for German Bundesliga side Mainz is a Liverpool player but has been on loan spell under Liverpool with over five clubs since signing for Liverpool since 2015.
Scotland champions Celtic are hoping to sign Nigerian forward if their present striker Odsonne Edouard who is aiming to leave the club following their knockout from the Champions League play-off yesterday. The player is likely to leave the club this summer and Taiwo Awoniyi is the player they are looking at as the perfect replacement for the player.
According to the Daily Star, The Hoops believes that Awoniyi would be valued at £9million, despite having never played a game for Liverpool. The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Bundesliga club FSV Mainz where he was involve in an injury that almost cost his life.
Awoniyi had previously been loaned to Gent and Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium, and Dutch outfit NEC Nijmegen respectively. The English newspaper believes Awoniyi would only be brought in if Edouard was to leave considering he’s only being looked at as a potential replacement.
