Valencia did well to thrash defending champions Real Madrid 4-1 yesterday in their La Liga clash. Carlos Soler scored a hat-trick in the game yesterday scoring three penalties.
Real Madrid were the first to find the back of the net. Karim Benzema put them in front from long-range effort before Soler equalised from a penalty that was retaken following an encroachment. France international Raphael Varane scored an own goal to make the scores 2-1. Carlos Soler increased the lead from the spot again after Marcelo fouled Maxi Gomez.
Valencia got their third penalty when goal leading defender in La Liga Sergio Ramos handled the ball. Soler made no mistake as he completed his hat-trick.
Madrid were looking to move one point behind leaders Real Sociedad before the international break but it never came. Zinedine Zidane’s side remain four points off the summit after this heavy defeat. Real Madrid won everything except for the most important which is the scores.
The hosts, who only had one attempt on target in the first half, took the lead before the breakthrough a bizarre own goal by Varane, who sent the ball over his head and over the line – the goal awarded several minutes later following another VAR review.
In an astonishing match, Valencia went on to score from two more penalties – 23-year-old Soler becoming only the third player in La Liga history to score three spot-kicks in a game.
