X, formerly known as Twitter, is flooded with BVN and NIN talks as Nigerians are complaining bitterly over the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN directives to link the Bank’s Verification Number and National Identification Number.
Different groups swarmed the microblogging platform to express how disappointed they were, following the unnecessary and stressful registration processes that wouldn’t lead to anything productive.
Many argued that Nigeria has all this data that yields no result when security matters arise, especially the kidnapping for ransom that has soiled the nation.
To date, security agencies hardly solve criminal cases using the data from Banks or the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC. They find it difficult to track an account where illegal money was sent or trace a cell phone used by bandits or kidnappers to contact their victims’ families for a ransom to be paid.
The bone of contention here is how would the new apex bank’s directives help curtail any financial misappropriation or money laundering activities in the country.
