A popular businessman arrested by EFCC has died in a prison in Nigeria, Kirikiri correctional facility in Lagos on Thursday.
The businessman, Jean Codo who is from the Benin Republic was arrested by the commission and is being investigated for an alleged fraud to the sum of €29m. He owned a company, Transport and Port Management Systems Limited.
The suspect Mr Jean was said to have slumped in the prison and was then rushed to the military hospital in Lagos where he died. He was granted bail in November of 2019, but due to the fact that he could not meet with the terms of his release, he was still in the prison.
He also had several appeals to be granted bail on the compassionate ground due to the COVID-19 pandemic denied by the Nigerian authorities.
