Buruji Kashamu’s Lawyer Replies Obasanjo

Share

In what seems like a response to the allegations raised against late Senator Buruji Kashamu by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo, his lawyer, Mr Ajibola Oluyede has opined that Kashamu’s successful legal actions were not legal manoeuvres.

Ajibola stated that the late Senator’s success was due to the intelligent response to the attempts by his Nigerian adversaries to subdue him before his demise.

He further stated that the narcotics case against his client in the United States of America was a case of mistaken identity following an alleged falsification of evidence.

According to Ajibola, the British court refused to hand Kashamu over to the US for prosecution in 2003, after an English magistrate, Tim Workman finally concluded that the US authorities had falsified evidence.

In a tribute to the deceased, the lawyer added that the US authorities knew that Buruji Kashamu was not the man referred to as Alaji by a group of students caught with drugs in 1994 at the airport in Chicago.

He said the US authorities decided to hide evidence from the British courts, which indicated that they had arrested the wrong man in London in 1998.

Ajibola reiterated that his deceased client fought various schemes to abduct and ship him off to the US till his last breath.

You will recall that ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo had in a letter of condolence stated that the late Senator used the manoeuvre of law and politics to escape from facing justice on the criminal offence he allegedly committed in and outside Nigeria.
