It never stops to amaze, the collective effort fan base combines to be toxic, especially on Twitter. What comes as a bigger shock is the aid the media provides to publicise false information generated by one fanbase over the artist they consider a threat.
There has been some unruly exchange between Burnaboy, his fanbase and the Wizkid FC. The erring faction is a problem that comes second to the information that has been aired during this exchange.
Invalid headlines and pictures have pelted the internet space. In an act of retaliation for the doctored image and news about Wizkid’s show being cancelled due to lack of ticket sales, the Wizkid FC decided to troll Burna Boy. Fake interviews about Burna’s intimate relationship with Stefflon Don and an incriminating picture of Fela and Burna Boy’s mother surfaced.
Burna’s reply to these tweets has been referred to as hypocritical, he has made claims of not knowing the genesis of the tweet on Wizkid’s show and even gone as far as making accusations against Wizkid’s fanbase for the tweet.
Evidence of him following the account that made the tweet, goes against his claims, making his intentions appear insincere. Wizkid’s fanbase has retorted, that if Burna cannot call his fanbase to order, they promise to respond to any negative tweet concerning Wizkid with violence.
In a ramble amongst fans, there have been opinions that Burnaboy is being petty with his replies. Amid such grandeur happenings like his latest album ‘Love, Damini’ being the highest charting album in the world and selling out large stadiums on his tour, he should not be concerned with internet trollers.
He might be making a mountain out of a molehill, but the public forgets that superstars are also humans and not immune to negativity.
