BUMBLEBEE: MY HONEST REVIEW

Warning spoilers below

Since Hollywood have now decided to milk every franchise for all they’re worth, we have yet another transformers movie. Starring Hailey Steinfield , Jorge Lendeborg Jr. & John Cena.

A transformers movie with (Spoiler alert) hardly any transforming happening.

Bumbleebee is a 2018 spin-off & prequel to the transformers franchise you know and love. So far, there has been five films since “The transformers” was adapted into live action. Bumblebee being the sixth was written by Christina Hodson and directed by Travis Knight (of Kubo and the two strings). Bumblebee was first announced as a spinoff and a prequel before it was confirmed to be a reboot of the franchise.

The movie doesn’t necessarily feel fresh. The jokes, the one liners all fell flat and the acting was a bit wooden. However, despite the fact that it’s predictable,it works. This newest installment of the franchise doesn’t seem to take it’s self too seriously this time. Unlike the old transformer films with an over the top convoluted plot. It doubles as a proper origin film for beloved character from the previous transformer movies; Bumblebee and also a fun family movie. The best part of it is that it has a very simple and compelling story. It stands out by trying make transformer fans forget about that time of their lives where there were you had to endure countless scenes of big explosions, with no idea of who was killing what. The director took a different path by making the characters more relatable.

Bumblebee(2018) has received mixed reviews from critics and film watchers. While being praised for its light tone and fun story, it has also been dragged for having a very predictable plot. Bumblebees inability to die was another complaint of film watchers. During the course of the movie, it seemed that Bee was protected by some kind of plot armor, die to the fact that he doesn’t break down no matter the amount of damage he takes.

Another major problem with Bumblebee is that the plot chose to focus more on Charlie’s life and her teenage drama rather than giving us the origin story we didn’t ask for but deserve!

The film obviously isn’t a blockbuster or an oscar contender, but it’s a nice film with heart, soul and emotion.  Bumblebee holds a rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 93% based on 217 reviews. The critical consensus read, “Bumblebee proves it’s possible to bring fun and a sense of wonder back to a bloated blockbuster franchise — and sets up its own slate of sequels in the bargain”.
