President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the naming of the railway stations along the Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe/Ajaokuta/ Aladja/Warri corridors after some prominent Nigerians.
The approval was contained in a statement made available by the Ministry of Transportation on Monday, July 27, 2020.
The statement was signed by Eric Ojiekwe, Director, Press and Public Relations on behalf of Federal Ministry of Transportation.
According to the statement, Agbor station was named after Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Abraka station was named after Brigadier General David Ejoor, Operation station was named after Micheal Ibru.
Also, Ujevwu station was named after Alfred Rewane while the railway village, Agbor was named after Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe.
Apapa station was named after Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ebute Metta station was named after late Mobolaji Johnson, Agege station was named after Babatunde Raji Fashola, Agbado station was named after Lateef Jakande and Kajola station was named after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The Itakpe station was named after Alhaji Adamu Attah, Ajaokuta station named after Dr Olushola Saraki, Itogbo station named after Admiral Augustus Aikhomu while the Agenebode station was named after Brigadier General George Innih.
Meanwhile, the Papalanto station was named after Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Abeokuta station was named after Professor Wole Soyinka, Olodo station was named after Aremo Segun Osoba and Omio-Adio station was named after Chief Ladoka Akintola
The Ibadan station and Operation Control centre were named after Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Alex Ekwueme respectively.
Others are the Uromi station named after Anthony Eromosele Enahoro, the Ekehen station named after Chief Tom Ikimi while the Igbanke station was named after Brig. Gen. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia.
