Buhari Makes Big Promise to Igbos over Kanu’s Fate

Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has given the Igbo race considerable assurance regarding the fate of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

President Buhari promised to consider a complicated request made by a group of prominent eastern elders who came for a courtesy visit at the presidential villa in Abuja yesterday.

He assured the group led by a First Republic parliamentarian and minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, that he’d genuinely considered the release of Kanu, but under some conditions.

He told the 93-year-old statesman and the rest of the group that their soliciting for the Biafra leader’s release is a request that needs a lot of considerations.

Meanwhile, Buhari told the group who came under the auspices of Highly Respected Igbo Greats that it’s hard to guarantee an unconditional release of a person currently undergoing trial in the Federal High Court.

He added that the move would go contrary to the doctrine of separation of powers between the executive and judiciary.

“But the demand you made is heavy. I will consider it,” he said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

Buhari noted that it’s already favour and a fair gesture allowing the IPOBleader to justly have a hearing in court and argue out his accusations the proper way.

On his part, the nonagenarian had described the situation in the South East as “painful and pathetic,” lamenting that businesses have collapsed, education is crumbling, and there is fear everywhere.

He pleaded for a political rather than military solution, requesting that if Kanu were released to him as the only First Republic Minister still alive, he’d ensure the embattled leader no longer partake in the separatist act.
