News just making the headlines is regarding the two Senators that recently quit the Nigerian Senate for various reasons.
One of them is Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the new national chairman of Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, who announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawal.
On the other hand, a similar gesture was exercised by Abubakar Kyari, who also communicated his decision to resign from the Senate to the Speaker.
The former, giving his reasons, said his decision to resign is consequent upon his new election as the Chairman of the APC, as his present position may conflict with his previous one and may also go against the newly enacted electoral act.
Even if the letter was read at the start of the plenary on Tuesday, Mr. Adamu, who represented Nasarawa West, said his resignation is to take effect from April 1, to give time for proper procedures.
His exact words as contained in parts of the letter, “I am, with utmost respect and appreciation, informing you that consequent to my victory as National Chairman in the just concluded APC convention, I hereby formally resign as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Nasarawa West senatorial district with effect from April 1, 2022.”
Also speaking, one of the Senators, Kyari, who represented Borno North in the Senate, was elected the Deputy National Chairman of the APC, North, in the national convention held in March, said his resignation was to enable him to assume duty in his new position.
