Brazil players have come out to criticise the decision of Copa America to be hosted in their country. The tournament, which was supposed to take place in South American Argentina, was moved to Brazil by the South American Football Confederation Conmebol.
Brazil Players Not Happy with Capa America Decision
The tournament was moved because of the civil unrest in Argentina. The Brazil players said: “For different reasons, be they humanitarian or professional, we are not satisfied with the way Conmebol has handled Copa America.”
A Brazilian media reported the team were not because they were not consulted about their decision to pick their country.
The players, however, said they are not considering leaving or boycotting the tournament. They made this known in a statement they posted on the players’ social media accounts. They said this minutes after breaking a record in Paraguay’s game. The first time they beat the Paragau since 1985, they beat Paraguay 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Asuncion. Argentina was stripped of the tournament just two weeks before the tournament started.
The tournament will be starting on the 13th of June, Colombia was supposed to co-host the tournament but was removed on the 20th of May because of civil unrest there. The 10-nation tournament kicks off on Sunday with the new hosts facing Venezuela in Brasilia.
