Billboard recently released its top songwriters for the past year and while some from the list are being given a nod of approval from the masses, some names on the list, however, have not received such welcome
At the top of the list is Ed Sheeran, which was certainly quite a surprise as it was a really quiet year for the brit. Following behind is Drake and Louis Belle. Bell has penned major hits for singers like Post Malone and others.
Next on the Category is Post Malone himself, followed by the late rapper XXXTentacion at No. 5. Frank Dukes comes in at number 6. Finally, Cardi B and her husband, Offset, enjoy back-to-back spots at 7 & 8. I’m sure they won’t mind that though.
John Cunningham XXXTentacion’s producer is at No 9 and the final is Tekashi 6ix9ine.
Certainly, the names are major, and the list, well deserved by the artists. But the internet doesn’t agree.
Many have called out Billboard for including Cardi B on the list stating that the Bodak Yellow singer hardly writes any of her own songs. The mob further bashed the company for the absence of major names like Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, and others.
Cardi in a very strong worded message on Twitter insisted that she writes her own music. On Thursday, the Grammy winner took to Twitter to address haters with a message.
The 26-year-old has toiled her way up and she certainly isn’t going anywhere. She recently dropped her single “Press” and is expected to drop her second studio album later this year.
She is expected to have appearances lined up, including the BET 2019 Awards where she is expected to perform.
