French Internation and Real Madrid star player Karim Benzema became Real Madrid’s fifth all-time leading goalscorer with a double in a victory over Valencia, which closed the gap on league leaders Barcelona to two points. The 32-year-old French international has now found the back of the net 243 times with the Madrid side overtaking Ferenc Puskas’ tally.
The first half of the game ended in a goalless draw, the first goal came in the second half of the game, former Chelsea forward Eden Hazard set up his first goal in the 61st minute of the game as Benzema scored a stunning late volley. Benzema’s second goal came deep into the second half after substitute Marco Asensio scored the second. The game ended 3-0 in favor of the home team Real Madrid.
It was a superb piece of skill, involving a flick and volley which made even the manager Zinedine Zidane to put his head in his hands in disbelief. The goal from Benzema will be a contender for goal of the season and his goals have set him among some of the greatest strikers in Real’s history.
Karim Benzema has no doubt been a an outstanding striker at Real Madrid, he has been able to prove himself in the Madrid team surpassing great strikers the club has ever produced. He has joined the league of strikers with the highest number of goals, the top goal scorer of all times in Real Madrid is Cristiano Ronaldo with 450 goals, followed by Raul with 323 goals, Alfredo Di Stefano is in the third spot with 308 goals, Santillana occupies the fourth place with 290 goals.
Karim Benzema has now displaced Ferenc Puskas who was in the fifth place with 242 goals, his brace yesterday placed him in the fifth-place position with 243 goals for the club.
