Benue State Police Kill 7 Suspected Armed Robbers

The Benue State police command has revealed that it had killed 7 men suspected to be armed robbers along the Makurdi-Lafia road.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Catherine Anene who is the state’s command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) revealed this to newsmen in a report on Friday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

DSP Catherine Anene said the officers of the police force acted on intelligence they received after the armed robbers suspected of being responsible for the numerous attack on motorists along the Makurdi-Lafia road had killed a police officer, Inspector Boniface Odeh and made away with his AK-47 rifle.

The criminals were said to have attacked the checkpoint where the officer is stationed on the 4th of June 2020.

The police officers tracked the culprits to where they were gathered, dressed in police uniform and military camouflage. On getting there they engaged the criminals in a gunfight, which lasted for about 20 minutes and inflicted various degrees of bullet wounds on seven of the armed robbers.

On getting to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, the culprits all finally died and their bodies were deposited with the morgue for proper autopsy.

The DSP also revealed that the AK-47 rifle was recovered from the armed robbers, along with another loaded with 21 live rounds of ammunition, a locally made pistol with 2 cartridges, 2 Dane guns, 4 machetes, 4 torches, 9 mobile phones and assorted charms.

The DSP warned criminals in the state to change from the path of crime or face the full extent of the law, ensuring that the police command would do every thing possible to crack down on crime in Benue state.
