Tuesday turned out to be yet another day of gloom as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers struck yet again on the Benin-Auchi road and successfully abducted an unspecified number of passengers.
The gunmen were said to have attacked a commercial bus bound for Abuja and traveling from Benin between Ehor and Iruekpen.
According to sources, a large number of the passengers “were forcefully taken into the bush”.
It can be recalled that gunmen had held siege to this same road barely a couple of weeks ago, on December 3, and had initially taken a reasonable number of innocent passengers hostage.

The spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, would not respond to calls and text messages sent to his mobile phone as at the time of filing this report.
This most recent event adds to the seemingly incessant number of cases of kidnappings along Nigerian highways.
