Brighton centre-back Ben White has been called up to replace injured Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. The call up is a surprise to everyone as they were all expecting Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be called to replace him in England’s Euro 2020 squad.

The 23-year-old centre-back made his debut in last week’s 1-0 friendly win over Austria, where Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold injured his thigh. Central defender Ben White started alongside Tyrone Mings in Sunday’s victory against Romania.
Gareth Southgate has probably picked the player because of Manchester United Harry Maguire’s injury. Maguire is gradually recovering, but that manager will not want to take any chance. England will be playing Croatia at Wembley Stadium in the opening game in Group D on Sunday.
England has been doing well in their international friendlies. They won all three of the games. The last game was with Romania, which ended 1-0 with Marcus Rashford scoring the only goal in the game.
