However, many are unaware of the real-life inspiration. It is said to be connected to BBNaija All Stars’ Finalist Cross.
The famous movie follows Andy Okeke, who is lured into the occult as he grapples with the sacrifices, demanded of him in exchange for wealth. Well, stories claim that life has imitated art in the life of our finalist, Cross.
Cross revealed to Peace during the BBNaija Shine Ya Eye season that his father was Eze-ego. Ezego (meaning King of Money) was a famous alleged ritualist.
‘Ezego of Ihialia’ hailed from Anambra. He was a man who seemingly emerged great wealth from nowhere. Many speculations have been made about him. Many Nigerians attributed his wealth to the Okija shrine, where it is believed, he exchanged his life for wealth.
The man died mysteriously in an accident that should not have taken his life. He died on his birthday. The way he died and his source of wealth were so mysterious that they gave credence to the occultic rumours.
Ezego was said to have so much money and a fleet of high-end cars and gadgets that were ahead of the time for many Nigerians. His sudden money, along with his early death at age 35, led many to believe that he had sold his soul to the devil.
There are also claims that his mansion in Anambra is still currently uninhabited, till today. It is a long time for a man who died on 25 December 1999.
However, what does this have to do with Cross? Well, many believe that Cross might be his son. Cross even talks about this on BBnaija All Stars. He claims his dad is Ezego.
However, it is unclear if he is referring to this alleged ritualist. Cross’ full name is Christopher Okonkwo. The famous Ezego was born Victor Nnamdi Okafor. It is not unlikely that the family might have changed surnames to distance themselves from the controversy.
Cross has talked about how wealthy his dad was. He also said that his family suffered after the death of his father. He told Biggie that all his father’s friends had abandoned them and only agreed to help if his mom would sleep with them.
