Bauchi State House of Assembly in great Disarray

Bauchi State House of Assembly is currently in disorder as two speakers emerged after the rival factions swore in speakers and Deputy Speaker in a parallel inauguration in Bauchi, the state capital. The inaction lead to a pandemonium atmosphere which lead to security agents firing tear gas to disperse some of the law makers elected on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) during the election of the speaker and deputy speaker at the premises of the state’s House of Assembly.

It’s said that the scandal started when 20 lawmakers rejected the emergency of Abubakar Suleiman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) from Ningi constituency as speaker of the 9th Assembly. Abubakar Suleiman along with two other lawmakers from APC went into alliance with the opposition party (PDP) to be elected speaker of the state’s House of Assembly in the premises of the House, which was immediately followed by the swearing in of the Deputy Speaker, Danlami Kawule of the PDP from Bauchi II constituency.

Furthermore, the place took a twist when Damina who was the formal speaker in the 8th Assembly organized his group of 18 members and held a parallel inauguration, and was re-elected and “sworn in” as Speaker.

Additionally, Tukur Ibrahim from Toro constituency was also “sworn in” as his deputy speaker outside the State’s Assembly complex and without the mace. However, the 9th Assembly inauguration was supposedly scheduled to hold by 10:00 am, but the eleven (11) members came before time at about 6:00 am to elect a speaker and went on with the inauguration.

We are all hoping to see what happen next, as security agents disperses the session.
