BAD BREATH MAY BE A SIGN OF SOMETHING SERIOUS

Bad breath, also known as Halitosis, is no longer a weird or strange issue. It is actually a common predicament experienced by a lot of people. That is why the shelves of stores and pharmacies are over flowing with gums, mouth wash and the likes.

Bad breath is usually thought to be caused by poor oral hygiene. Mouth infection, gum decay or untreated mouth injuries are possible causes of mouth odour following poor oral hygiene.

On the order hand, Mouth odour can also be a sign for some other illnesses and diseases. It is one way the body sends signal about an unaccepted situations.

Some of the diseases that might result in temporary bad breath include:

  1. Lung Infections like Aspiration Pneumonia this might cause some secretions draining into the mouth hence the odour.
  2. Bronchiectasis
  3. Sinuses
  4. Dry mouth
  5. Ketoacidosis
  6. Chronic diseases affecting the liver and kidney can also cause mouth odour.
  7. Metabolic issues like Bowel Obstruction
  8. Diseases affecting the digestive tract may cause mouth odour as a secondary effect.

So, if one is having bad breath issues especially for prolonged period of time, there is need for proper check. Quit assuming possible causes and go see your doctor. Health is wealth.
