Awoniyi Completes his 7th Loan Move since Joining Liverpool

Taiwo Awoniyi Joins Union Berlin on a Season-Long Loan

Taiwo Awoniyi has made his seventh loan move from Liverpool as he completed his transfer to Bundesliga club Union Berlin for the 2020/2021 season, Union Berlin confirmed Awoniyi’s loan move in a statement released on their official website on Saturday. Since joining Liverpool in 2015, Awoniyi has been sent on loan to FSV Frankfurt, NEC Breda, Mouscron (featured on loan twice at Mouscron), Gent and Mainz.

Commenting on Awoniyi’s signing the German club stated: “Union Berlin have bolstered their attacking power with the signing of Taiwo Awoniyi on loan from Premier League side Liverpool. “The 23-year-old joined the Liverpool academy in 2015 and has gained first-team experience across European football. 

“Awoniyi spent last season at Mainz, but previously featured in Germany for FSV Frankfurt, in the Netherlands at NEC Nijmegen and in Belgium with KAA Gent and Royal Mouscron. “Despite being a natural number 9, Awoniyi featured in various attacking positions for the Carnival Club. In 12 Bundesliga appearances, his lone goal came against 1. FC Köln.”The 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner with the Golden Eaglets said:“I’m looking forward to a new home and the task at 1. FC Union Berlin.

According to Ayuniyi, he said; “At Union, I want to take the next steps, play as much as possible, develop and help the team to stay in the league.” His new side FC Union Berlin commenting on him said: “Taiwo is a highly talented player who already knows the Bundesliga. He has already played in several countries and will certainly be settled in our team very quickly. 

“With his physical robustness, his team spirit and work around the box. He should make our attacking game more flexible and further stimulate the attack.”
