Atletico Madrid Set to Become La Liga Champions

Share

Atletico Madrid moved a step closer to lifting the Spanish La Liga title after many years. Their yesterday win over Real Sociedad is a big step for them to become the next champions for the first time since 2014. They beat Real Sociedad at home 2-1 to ensure Barcelona or Real Madrid does not come close to them.

Atletico Madrid Wins to Keep Eyes on Glory

The first goal came from Belgium international Yannick Carrasco, the forward put Atletico ahead when he collected Marcos Llorente’s ball over the top of the Sociedad defence and finished past the goalie Alex Remiro. Angel Correa doubled the lead for the host with a first-time finish following Luis Suarez’s excellent through ball.

Real Sociedad tried to come back to the game as Igor Zubeldia scored late into the game but it came out to be just a consolation goal as Atletico Madrid held on to their win. Atletico Madrid will win the Spanish title for the 11th time in their history if they are able to win their last two games with Barcelona and Real Madrid closely behind them.

They will be playing at home against Osasuna on Sunday who is in the 11th place-position before ending the campaign a week later away at a Real Valladolid. Atletico is four points clear of second-placed Barcelona but city rivals Real Madrid are the biggest threat to Diego Simeone’s side.
