The presidential candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the 2019 General Elections in Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is in the news as he announced that his son tested positive to Coronavirus, COVID-19.
In a post on his official twitter handle, @atiku, the former vice president urged his followers to keep his son in their prayers.
He said “My son has tested positive to coronavirus. @NCDCGov has been duly informed, and he has been moved to Gwagwalada Specialist Teaching Hospital in Abuja for treatment and management. I will appreciate it if you have him in your prayers. Stay safe, coronavirus is real. -AA
While reacting to the post, many of his followers were of the opinion that Coronavirus outbreak has revealed that Nigerian leaders have failed to fix the health sector.
A twitter user with the username @Marylinbeckas said “If there’s anything this Atiku’s case has taught me, it’s d fact that KARMA is indeed a bitch. It doesn’t serve u what’s on d menu, it serves u what u deserve. None of our politicians ever thought a day would come where they’ll have to use d decayed health system they coursed us.
Another twitter user @Keefayahq, tweeted “Atiku son is being treated at Gwagwalada specialist hospital If they had foreseen this will happen they would have upgraded the hospital to standard but as God will have it These greedy politicians are about to reap what they sow Hopefully they learn from this Corona pandemic.
Another twitter user, @kinnsokoye who posted two photos to buttress his view said, “Politicians who travel abroad for treatment even ordinary headaches NO country will accept you now. It’s time to rip what you sow #COVIDー19 Atiku #Buhari.
@MrOdanz said The boy was supposed to be taken to the best hospital in the world cuz his father was Ex Vice President. Now it’s a specialist TH in GwaGwalada where he never thought of visiting for headache. Atiku said “Coronavirus is real”
Meanwhile, The coronavirus cases in the country increased from 22 on Saturday to 31 on Sunday.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, on its Twitter handle on Sunday, said the cases included 22 in Lagos State, four in the Federal Capital Territory, one in Oyo State and one in Ekiti State.
