Alex Berenguer scored a superb 89th-minute winner to help Athletic Bilbao knock out Real Madrid from Copa del Rey to reach the semi-finals. It was just remaining one minute before the full 90-minutes will be over then the goal came for Athletic Bilbao. Substitute Berenguer cut inside and drilled a precise finish into the far corner to stun Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
Athletic Bilbao will be looking to reach the final for the third consecutive season. They are now the second side to knock out Real Madrid from the Copa del Rey after Real Zaragoza knocked Real and Barcelona out of the cup in one season. They were the same side that beat Barcelona and eliminated them from the tournament.
Defeat for Real Madrid ends hopes for a domestic double, as the side top the La Liga table, four points clear of Sevilla. Valencia, Real Betis and Rayo Vallecano all joined Bilbao in the last four of the cup.
