ASUU Strike: Union Might Reverse Decision to Resume Academic Sessions

Share

We’re yet to hear the last of this ASUU Strike conundrum, following some terms and conditions that must be fulfilled, else, the Academic Staff Union of Universities executives would reverse its decision to fully resume schooling sessions.

The union’s National Executive Council, NEC initially consented to calling off the strike, but a new message from ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, revealed that a couple of demands are yet to be met, adding that failure on the part of the Federal Government to fulfil their pledges would result to a revisit of their earlier agreement.

Recall that the union previously declared an indefinite industrial action on February 14, 2022, that left students unproductive without educational activities that made some turn to societal vices up until the calling-off period.

As ASUU suspends strike, Here are some of the key demands the union hopes to obtain from the Nigerian Government:

1. Funding for the revitalisation of public universities;

2. Earned academic allowances;

3. Proliferation of public universities;

4. Visitation panels/release of white papers, university transparency and accountability solution, UTAS, as a broad spectrum software to stop illegality;

5. ProviSion for an alternative payment platform in the university system;

6. Renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, among other relevant requests.
