Agency Reveals Arrival Date of COVID-19 Vaccine in Nigeria

The Head, National Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib has revealed when Nigeria will get the first batch of COVID-19 (Pfizer-BioNTech) vaccines.

Dr Shuaib disclosed that there will be COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria by the end of January as part of efforts to inoculate 40% of the population this year and 30% next year.

Earlier, Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has also stated that Nigeria and other African countries will get the COVID-19 vaccine from the end of January 2021 through the first quarter of 2021.

COVID-19 Vaccine in Nigeria

Okonjo-Iweala, who gave the assurance after a closed-door meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama noted that lower-middle-income countries like Nigeria, need to get it as quickly as possible.

She, however, stated that Nigeria was blessed for not having the same incidence rate of COVID-19 as other continents.

Everyevery.ng had earlier reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffery Onyeama revealed that the federal government is in talks with China to have access to COVID-19 vaccines.

Onyeama disclosed this after a bilateral meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, who visited Nigeria on a working visit (read more here)
